S2 E9 2024 Year in Review: Albums - Magdalena Bay's "Imaginal Disk" x Johnny Blue Skies' "Passage du Desir"

Danny and Julius Season 2 Episode 9

Continuing our review of 2024, today we discuss our picks for 2024 albums of the year, ie the albums we are most excited to talk about. It just so happens we picked albums that we both already loved before embarking on this 2024 episode journey!

First we'll do a little rapid fire album discussion pulling from each of our 2024 Album Topsters (see link below). We revisit our thoughts on the much discussed Brat and Alligator Bites Never Heal, as well as two underrated rap albums Dark Times and Pinball, among others.

Then we get into Julius's album pick - Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay. This duo's 2024 offering is a dynamic and conceptual album filled with catchy melodies. The music is catchy and expertly crafted, not to mention their great visual art in music videos and live performances.

Then we get into a personal favorite for Danny, Sturgill Simpson who released an album under the name "Johnny Blue Skies." We'll get into what lead him to the name change, how his music affected country as a whole, and how Sturgill's no-frills, jam-forward live shows became a hugely popular live show over the past year.
